Alphabetti Spaghetti
Type design and art direction
Alphabetti Spaghetti is an A–Z of seasonal recipes, each shining the spotlight on an ingredient. They’re illustrated with scanned food and type designed to resemble its characteristics.
Alphabetti Spaghetti is my response to the open challenge: 36 Days of Type. The daily nature of the challenge shaped my design approach. Where scanning the ingredients began as a practical necessity – it’s quick and my flat has a lack of natural light – it resulted in a playful experiment with strong contrast and an unexpectedly bold aesthetic. This left time to concentrate on the lettering design, capturing the essence of the ingredient in the serifs, bars and counters of a single glyph.
