Side Knits
Visual identity
Knitting charts are like little boxes of code that, once you learn how to crack them, you can unlock the secret instructions to your next jumper or hat. The visual identity of Side Knits explores a person’s journey as they learn to knit and the comforting repetition of the click clack of the needles and mantra of knit, purl, knit, purl, knit, purl.
The repetitive symbols and cobalt blue are a contemporary take on the old fashioned craft, a reminder of its mindful benefits both for yourself and in the sustainability world of slow fashion.
Side Knits is my side project, merging my passion for design, knitting and the environment.

The concept for Side Knits originates with the codes used in knitting charts.

knit, knit, purl, purl, knit, knit, purl, purl, knit, knit, purl, purl

Knit, knit, purl, purl = 2×2 rib. A jumper knitting pattern booklet.

The construction of the side logo uses the typeface Bely Display as a base. The gap in the middle represents its two sides.
knit, purl, knit, purl, knit, purl, knit, purl, knit, purl, knit, purl

Knit, purl, knit, purl = moss stitch. Moss stitch is the base for this cardigan pattern.

Iconography used to represent different features. For example peachy soft and 100% toasty.
